Damyang ~> Boseong (31/10/2015 ~ 01/11/2015)

Since this semester  begins, I had been really busy preparing for exams and completing assignments. Thus, i had no time to leave Seoul for a vacation. Thanks to this Korea Farm Tourism Organisation, I got the chance to take a rest to a slow city which is located about 5 hours from Seoul. Damyang, which is well known as a slow city,

Damyang is well known with its bamboo farm and there will be bamboo festival every year.

we had the chance to learn how to make bee wax candle, rice taffy and a mini album.
i got to know that it takes quite a long time to make a bee wax candle. we had to repeat the same process for about 10 times.
so this is the bee wax candle that i made myself. there was an interesting thing happened during the process. there was one bee which mistakenly thought that the pot of the hot wax was the honey due to its sweet smell and it flew directly inside the pot and it died.
the teacher told us that the candle will only ready to be used after one month.

i love this place because the people were friendly. we encountered some kids in the village who talked to us and be kind to us even though we only met for the first time. they were surprised that we can speak Korean well.

after that, we were brought to make rice taffy. rice taffy is a kind of sweet which the Koreans believe that eating this before the exam will help you to score well.
so this is the rice taffy we made after some hard work. it required really much energy to make it.
so this is the rice taffy before efforts of pulling it and mixing it with sesame and ginger powder.
it was quite surprised that the white rice taffy was initially from a brown piece of sweet.

in damyang, we were asked to take a lot of photos and we were given a chance to make a mini album. it was my first mini album as i do not have a lot of photos.

our first day in damyang ended with a very decent guesthouse. it was not really luxury, but it was a decent accommodation. even though the nearest convenient store was 1 and a half hour away from the guesthouse, it simply proved that the stay was really "kampung" stay, which we could really experienced the life in the rural area.

on the next day, we woke up early and headed to the boseong tea plantations. this plantation is not the common one like the other plantations, it is one of the most famous plantations in South Korea which they served their tea to Park Geun Hye prime minister. Besides, the royal family of Saudi Arabia came to visit the plantation on this May.

so these two kinds of tea are the one served to the prime minister of South Korea.

the tea plantations had indeed idyllic scenery and nice weather. Furthermore, there is no any factory in within 10km distance from the tea plantations. So the air was very fresh and invigorating there. The owner of the plantation looked young compared to their real age, and we wonder if the air over there was the important factor in causing this and perhaps if we stay there for a long time we would look younger and became healthier. at least this is what we thought  hhaa

before we left the place, the owner, who was the ahjossi in the photo, told us that, being a student, it is not right for us to keep planning for the future, such as what work to do, which company to enter, and keep worrying about it. for every moment, we have to enjoy what we are doing. just focus on what we are doing, and think about how can we do it well, is the most important thing. he still asked us to come back at anytime we want. even if we do not have the money to pay for the stay in the guesthouse in the plantation, he asked us not to worry about that. just go there when we feel tired and sick of the world and the society, to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
they were really friendly owners. it was a great healing in the midst of the crazily hectic university life.

i strongly recommend people who are tired of their study or working life to visit here at anytime!!
